CONTAINER LASHING EQUIPMENT

LOAD BINDING/LOAD LASHING

In the arrangement of loads of many packages, sometimes the arrangement cannot be carried out in such a way due to the different forms of packaging that therefore requires binding / lashing should not be forgotten because the possibility of damage to the cargo can occur due to the movement of the cargo from its place caused by the ship rocking ( rolling) or nodding (pitching) experienced by the ship in connection with sea conditions during the voyage.

In order to make the cargo immobile, it is necessary to obtain binding or lashing so that the compacted cargo remains solid and integrated with the ship's hull.

CONTAINER LASHING EQUIPMENT

Containers that are loaded in the hold especially those that are loaded on the deck, after the completion of loading each container must be lashed immediately so that it does not collapse easily and the aim is to become one unit with the ship's hull. The tools used in the operation of lashing and securing containers are as follows: (A.H. Tumbel Containers and their Handling, 1991, p. 75).

Single Bridge Cone

These tools as the name suggests Base Cone are used at the bottom of the first container stack. For placement above the hatch bottom or tank top where the bottom is inserted into the base cone retaining hole. For placement above the pontoon or hatch cover pontoon. If it is not permanently attached to the hatch cover, it cannot be removed again. The center of the cone has a hole for inserting a deck pin or locking pin if the container is attached to the base cone and hatch cover.

Double Bridge Base Cone

This tool is installed on the flat part of the row of containers in the middle where it binds two containers at once. Because the name uses a base cone, this tool is only used at the bottom of the hatch or tank top. Usually of the flat type, which is later inserted into the holder above the hatch cover, there are times when this tool is mounted permanently above the hatch cover so there is no need to open and install it again.

Double Stacking Single Bridge Cone

This tool is usually used in the arrangement of containers from the second level on the outermost side, so that it means on containers that are on the far left and right sides and on the outer edge only, in front of and on the back edge of the container.

Double Stacking Double Bridge Cone

This type of fitting consists of 4 cones where two are attached facing up and the other two facing down at one end and facing up. This tool is used on the second level of the container arrangement in the middle which binds two containers side by side or in a row. Both the bottom container for the downward-facing cone and the above container will bind two containers together.

Deck Pin or Deck Locking Pin

This tool is used to hold the bottom of the container after being put into the container.

Corner Casting Pin

The use of this tool is usually one end is inserted into the side hole of the corner casting of the container and the other end which is on the outside is used to fasten the lashing rod.

Pigeon Hook

This tool functions the same as a corner casting pin, which is a place to attach a lashing rood, only it looks like a dove so it is called a pigeon hook. This type of tool is often used in recent times.

Top Lock

A lashing device located or installed at the top of a container where one top lock can bind two containers. This tool is in the form of two hooks or vise that can be tightened with screw threads.

Twist Lock

Is a lashing device that is installed to bind containers on the top and most edge piles.

Screw Bridge Fitting

This tool is basically the same as the top lock, the difference is only in the tightening. In the top lock the fasteners are on the outside of the vise while in the screw bridge fittings the fasteners are in the middle. When the fastener is rotated, the two vise will be close to each other and tighten.

Turn Buckle

This tool is usually installed on the deck where the lashing deck is. The shape is in the form of two threaded rods where one end has a bond which will be connected to the eye of the lashing rod. When the center is rotated, the two threaded rods will rotate, tighten or loosen.

Bottle Screw

This tool functions the same as a turn buckle, namely to fasten the lashing rod to the deck. The shape is made of two rods where at both ends of the rod there is a hook hook in the middle there is a threaded tube that has a wheel or spinning wheel so that when tightening it easily turns the wheel.

Lashing Rod

This tool is in the form of a tock or rod with a diameter of approximately 3.0 cm in which there are several lengths depending on the level or arrangement of several containers to be lashed. at both ends there is one eye and at the other end there is a hook like a pigeon hook there is also a double-edged lashing rode.

Extension Hook

This tool is used to welcome the lashing rode because the container height exceeds the normal container size. This hook will be attached to the bottom eye to the lashing rode while the edged end is hooked to the hook of the turn buckle. The length of the extension hook ranges from 40-50 cm.

Lashing Points

At each bottom of the place where the corner casting of the container rests, there are always 3 or 4 eyes for mounting lashing tools such as turn buckles.
