WASTE DISPOSAL
Other than sanitary wastes and kitchen scraps, waste shall not be disposed of into the ocean. Waste streams that cannot be identified should be marked so they can be sampled, identified and analysed onshore.
Different containers for hazardous and non-hazardous wastes shall be available on the “FPSO ” and clearly marked. In case of overflow, substitutes should be available. Lids or nets will be provided so that waste will not blow out of full containers.
Specific requirements for different wastes are listed below.
Sanitary Wastes
All sewage shall pass through the sewage treatment plant.
Kitchen scraps
Shall be macerated to 25mm or less and disposed of overboard.
Solid wastes
Empty metal containers, used metal frames and tubes, etc. shall be put in the
"Metal Waste Skip". Other solid wastes such as plastics, metal, paper and wooden wastes and other solid materials shall be separately stored in the "Solid Waste Skip" for disposal onshore.
Hazardous Wastes
Hazardous wastes include waste oil, some bottled gases, heavily oiled rags, solvents, batteries, chemicals, paints, drums, sacks and containers previously containing hazardous materials. Medical waste is also hazardous and shall be disposed of properly. Unused or expired chemicals shall be labeled and returned ashore as hazardous goods or wastes for re-use or disposal.
Waste oils
Waste oils such as lubes and diesel may be disposed of by pumping them into the Slop Tank for recycling. Chemical wastes are not to be disposed of in this manner.
Waste chemicals
Waste chemicals shall be collected separately in secured containers to be disposed of onshore. The chemicals mixture shall be labeled as "Hazardous - Chemicals Mixture". If the waste chemicals are not mixed, they shall be properly packaged, segregated and labeled.
Medical wastes
Medical wastes, including out of date drugs, shall be bagged in plastic bags, labeled "Hazardous Medical Waste" and sent ashore for disposal. Also sharps are put in a sealed plastic container labeled "Sharps - Hazardous Waste" to be disposed of onshore.
Batteries
Used small batteries shall be collected in a plastic container and sent ashore separately from other waste.
SEWAGE WATER DISPOSAL
For the discharge of sewage the ship shall adhere to the regulations in MARPOL 73/78, Annex IV.
In port and other restricted areas, prior to and during port stays, or when operating in any other area where the release of sewage is prohibited, a passive tank system connected to the sewage tank on board shall be used for the-preliminary storage of sewage.

All relevant information regarding treatment and disposal of sewage shall be entered in the Engine Log Book. Information regarding the burning of sewage and/or sludge shall also be entered in the Engine Log Book and Oil Record Book.
